Ruminant

I don't know if this is a llama or an alpaca, so you'll see I used a word that both animals are to title this post. (I learned it from a crossword puzzle. It's a mammal who is a cud chewer.) I know llamas are a little bigger than alpacas, but I shot this from my car with my 70-300 lens zoomed out to 300, so I'm not sure of his/her size. Also, llamas are mean and alpacas are nice. Since I didn't get out of the car to talk to him/her, I didn't get a sense of his/her personality so I still don't know what he/she is.

I laughed at the personality comment. From that face, I'd say he/she was pretty friendly. Looks like he/she's whistling at you:)

Looks like a llama to me. Alpacas have more delicate bodies. My DD was an alpaca nanny when she was in college--boy, does she have the stories!!

Cute! And it looks like a llama! Good thing you didn't get out of the car. It's also very important to NOT take a car with lots of bird poop on it to places where there are llamas. Years ago my husband, his brother, and I drove my brother-in-law's old car, covered in bird poop, to a San Diego animal preserve. The llamas surrounded our car, were obsessed and delighted with slurping up the bird poop, and we could not move! We were trapped there for quite some time until they finished chowing down! By the way, Becky, I posted a link to you on my blog tonight :)

The comments are almost as interesting as your post. Almost. ;)

I love the twisted mouth. Like she's chewing and sizing you up.

Chewing the cud for sure. I'll be sure to use the word Ruminant tomorrow at work to describe a surly co-worker, thanks to you!

It's a llama, for sure. Did you believe that? I like to make up answers and pretend they are true ;)

Either way its an awesome shot.

Looks like he/she is checking you out as much as you are him/her! Great shot!

What a face he has! There's a lot of alpaca/llama farms around here, odd creatures they are!

I can tell right now that you two would get along brilliantly. I get such a kick out of these animals and their facial expressions. He/she doesn't look too dangerous, but with your 70-300 at least you didn't risk a spitting incident.

LOL. Is it bad that I can imagine you at some point in your life getting out of the car, calling the animal over, and having a discussion to decide on it's personality?

Cool shot! Funny commentary also! :)

This is a llama. An alpaca has a tiny face and a much shorter nose. They are also smaller...both can be mean and both can be lovley - but I like alpacas best.
