Softball

I'm still in Florida. My dad's home from the hospital, and we had a nice quiet day with no medical emergencies. Yay! Here's another photo I scraped out of my Photobucket account. My baby girl sliding safely into home during one of her softball games.

The boy and his girl, prom night.

Prom

I'm still here in Florida but realized I still have a photo or two in my Photobucket that I haven't shown yet, like my handsome boy's prom photos from Saturday.

No Photo

No photo today. I had to fly down to Florida unexpectedly. My dad's back in the hospital. He had an episode of ventricular fibrillation, and the defbrillator device that he had placed last summer did its job and saved his life, Thank God. He's still having arrhythmia and is scheduled for another heart catheterization tomorrow, so prayers and good thoughts are appreciated!

Dandelions

Part 7 and the conclusion of the spring edition of "stuff that grows on my lawn besides grass", the much-maligned and ever-present dandelion:

Yellow Weed

Things that grow on my lawn that aren't grass, part 4. This one definitely wasn't thumbnail-sized. It was about 8 inches tall. Our lawnmower was in the shop so the first lawn-mowing of the year was long overdue by the time I got to it this week.

Johnny Jump Up

Things that grow on my lawn that aren't grass, part 3. Several years ago I planted some Johnny Jump Ups in front of the house, and over the years they've jumped right onto the lawn. Again, teeny thumbnail-sized blossoms.

Violet

Things that grow on my lawn that aren't grass, part 2. Violets. Again, flowers no bigger than my thumbnail.

Wild strawberry flower

Things that grow on my lawn that aren't grass, part 1. Wild strawberry plants, with flowers no bigger than my thumbnail.

He-man throwing things

My son at a track meet. Can I say he does track if he only does the "field" part of track and field? Wouldn't it be more accurate to say Cam does field? Wouldn't that be funny? Doesn't his friend in the background look like Samson?
Stupid net gets in the way of my discus pictures. There's a lot of distracting background stuff to deal with at track meets. It's annoying.

I haven't been getting a lot of photos of Cam lately. He has prom this weekend, though, so he better watch out for the momarazzi.

Butterfly overload. The rest of my butterfly photos from the conservatory at the Museum of Natural History in New York.

Bird of the Day: Canada Goose

Even at a track meet I can stalk birds.

Tulip bud

Our tulips are close to blooming.

Blue skies

It sure is a big beautiful world out there.

Bird of the day

Blue Jay. They're so common around here that I sometimes forget how pretty they are.

Which do you prefer, horizontal or vertical crop?

Chipmunk

I couldn't believe how close this chipmunk let me get. I was using my telephoto, but I don't think I was even zoomed all the way out here. I was able to get less than 10 feet from where he was perched on my fence post. Poor little guy was askeered of me. I was wondering out loud why I like chipmunks so much but don't like squirrels, and my daughter said, "Chipmunks don't try to destroy your house like red squirrels do." Good point, Laney.

My Mom

Slightly late for Mother's day, but I raided my mom's photo stash on Mother's Day and have been busy scanning them into my computer.

I love, love, love this photo of Mom as a little girl. I just want to go back in time and hug her (and protect her and give her the childhood she deserved).
She's so cute with that outfit and her little chicken legs.
I love her sassy hip cock and sexy cat's eye glasses here. Sometimes she'd sit in that chair while she talked on the phone, and I liked to sit on her lap and hang upside down while I played with the phone cord.
I love you Mom!

Dandelion Fluff

Lawn people hate them; photographer types love them. I could do a whole photo series of everything that grows on my lawn besides grass.

Hope everyone had a nice Mother's Day with your kids, moms, or other women you love.

My kids

Just a snap of my kids showing off what thousands of dollars of orthodontia bought us. Delaney's braces came off on Friday, and Cam's came off a couple of months ago. (Poor guy had his on almost three years; she had hers just shy of one year.)

Camo chic

Another butterfly/moth from the butterfly conservatory at the Museum of Natural History in NYC. One of the volunteers saw me taking photos and called me over to show me this leaf-like one; otherwise I'd have completely missed it. Pretty cool.

The Girly Details

Some girly details from Delaney's semi-formal.
The corsage:
The (sparkling cider) toast. I love how you can tell by their hands that they're still just kids:
The hair:

Critter of the Day

My nemesis, the bird food thief. Speaking of squirrels, my cousin in South Carolina posted a photo of a squirrel on Facebook, and it freaked me the heck out! It didn't look like any squirrel I ever saw. It looked more like a groundhog on steroids.

Semi-formal

Delaney (13) had her semi-formal last night. When I looked through my photos I realized I didn't take a single full-length one of her alone. When I get her friends' parents permission I'll post some more (her boyfriend is so cute!)
Delaney and her BFF. I know her mom doesn't mind if I post her. Both of them are getting their braces off this week (and then they'll look even older, sigh.)
